INTERVIEW

What makes you a lovely Lovli Local?

The people I meet on my tours make me so excited. I love the exchange between the participants and with the participants. I share my ideas about local food, sustainability, the Dutch countryside, the people and their passion. In return I get the biggest smiles, lots of travel ideas, great feedback and fantastic input. Learning from each other, opening up to new ideas. Just wow!

What makes your tours different to others?

In my cycling tours and food tours it is not that much about the destination. It is about the journey. I always make sure you get a chance to breathe in the atmosphere, meet local - entrepreneurs-, cheese farmers, millers, greenhouse vegetable and flower growers.

What do you like most/least about your city?

I'm not a big fan of cities in general. Cycling in cities just makes me stressed, you have to share the road with trams and other vehicles, pedestrians as well. It all is very caotic, as people look at their phone screen and not at each other anymore. The Dutch countryside I simply adore. The scenery is different, depending on the weather. I go wild when I spot wildlife, when cows or other farm animals look at me with a "Hey, what's up" attitude. There are so many things still to discover and I often find these new places on tours with participants like you!

If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go?

I meet lots of great people on my tours, who recommend me to visit their area. As I love food I am now really looking forward to visiting a avocado farm in San Diego.

What’s the one thing you can’t live without?

Meeting people, talking about cultural similarities and differences.

What’s your favorite smell?

Every season smells different: I like the scent of warm, freshly baked stroopwafels, pepernoten and coffee. The forest in autumn, the meadows after rain, daffodils in spring, firewood in winter, sea in summer.
