VENICE

VENICE

As much as one may like creating and working on new projects one is probably happy that mankind has already done t h a t job: dreaming up such an extraordinary city as Venice. Whose idea was that?!

No other place in this world is as much out of this world. Hymns of praise, sighs and dreamy glances of those who have already been there testify the singularity of this place. Before you start feeling too awe-struck pack your suitcases and go visit this unreal world heritage site.

Even though it won't be just you but million others from all around the world who've had that same idea it is still easy to escape the feeling of having landed in a surreal tourist wonderland. Simply turn around any corner to leave the touristy beaten tracks behind. Soon you will find yourself on a quiet street leading you into the real city with its regular day to day business and life - if life in such a place can get anything like close to regular. Reliable signs that you have successfully managed to find your way into that real Venice are bambini joyfully playing outside and fragrant laundry fluttering high up across windows. Now just follow your nose to find hidden corners and places, busy artisans in their workshops, back-alley galleries that are inviting you in, unforgettable osterias that pamper you at decent prices and much more.

Once you've gained some solid Italian ground under your feet it is safe (and even highly recommended) to head for those things that everyone else has also come for. You'll discover that that's for a good reason: the grand canal, all the palazzi and basilica, the gondoliers and cafes, the Rialto bridge and market... don't let it get to yourself: only when you have the feeling that everything is unreally beautiful you know that this is the real thing.
